SURPRISE & DISBELIEF


Haah !!!! Beneran nih!! Sumpah gue gak percaya!! Hmm… kata-kata itu sering kita gunakan ketika menanggapi hal yang di luar pemikiran kita, Betul tidak … (gaya Aa Gym). Nah berikut sedikit penjelasann dari aye tentang SURPRISE & DISBELIEF!! Nyok gulir ke bawah,pahami,cermati dan resapi. Selamat Belajar!
Definition
Surprise :   A feeling that we feel when heard an amazing news
which surprised and amazed us an expression that we show/ say when we know/hear/see something that
rather difficult to believe .Used to express something that we can’t or impossible.

        Disbelief :   A state of the mind in which one is fully persuaded that
                        an opinion, assertion, or doctrine isn’t true ; refusal
                        of assent, credit, or credence ; denial of belief.


Expressing Surprise & Disbelief
a.   Simple way :
·        What a surprise!
·        That’s a surprise!
·        (Well), that’s very surprising!
·        Really?
·        What?
·        Are you serious?
·        You must be joking!
·        You’re kidding!
·        Fancy that!
·        I must say … surprises me.
·        I find that hard to believe.
·        I just can’t believe that he is no more.
·        The experience was totally unbelievable.
·        Words can’t express what I am going through.
·        I couldn’t believe my eyes.
·        Words can’t express how I am feeling now.
b.   With idioms and question tag :
·        Come on, you can't be serious.
·        You're not serious, are you?
·        You're lying, aren't you?
·        Really? It's wrong, isn't it?
·        She is not serious, is she?
·        You're joking, aren't you?
·        You're kidding me
·        You're laughing at me
·        You're pulling my leg
·        I can't believe you!
c.   In the following section, we will look at some common ways in which people express surprise.
·         In most informal situations, people use single words to show their surprise. They say: Surprising! Amazing! Astonishing! ‘Amazing’ and ‘astonishing’ express great surprise. These words of surprise can also be put in a short sentence, like: It’s surprising/amazing/astonishing

·         Some people show their surprise by saying: Good heavens! / Good Lord! / I don’t believe it!

·         Surprise can be stated in a simple sentence, like: This/That is a surprise!

·         A sentence in the exclamatory from shows a higher degree of surprise: What a surprise! When surprise is also enjoyable, people say: What a pleasant surprise!

        San   : Who was the girl with you in the book shop yesterday?
        Mir    : It was Ana, Our elementary school friend.
        San   : Really? How surprising! She was a fat girl in the class. And
                  now, Wow!! She is very beautiful and slim.
Mir    : Yeah, that’s right!
